For many people, the Covid-19 Pandemic has probably been one of the most traumatic events to ever take place in the lives of some individuals. Even if you were not directly affected by the pandemic, watching the news and the fear of getting sick constantly looming over your head can be pretty daunting. Though it no longer seems likely, the idea of going into another shut down with the new delta variant has many on edge. Not only due to the stagnation of life that the pandemic has already caused, but the efforts you have taken to stay healthy and limit the spread of the virus feels as though it was all for nothing. Today, we will take a look at how we can improve our quarantine time, along with some things we learned from the last shutdown that can reduce anxiety and other negative feelings.
Stock Up on Essentials
We learned a lot of things from the start of the pandemic. The main thing is how important having essential items such as food, water, medicine, and a first aid kit are, with the exception of masks and other pandemic-related items, of course. Having these things on hand during the height of the pandemic reduced how often we had to go outside, thus reducing your risk of exposure to the virus. The same thing can be applied even now, as having the essentials will cut down on the cost of transportation and grocery store runs during inclement weather.
Pick Up Some Healthy Habits
Creating a routine is about maintaining consistency. Showing up for yourself in a way that no one else can. During the height of the pandemic, many have found that they missed what the mundane of their routine was. Because we are creatures of habit, we don’t like our routines to be disturbed. Some may have actually found the disruption of their routines to be more stressful than the repetitiveness of the routine itself. This can be due to the fear of the unknown that comes with doing something different. The pandemic caused us to change how we live our lives for survival. Find A Hobby
The problem with having too much time on your hands and no idea of what to do with it can contribute to negative and intrusive thoughts. This can lead to unwanted anxiety and panic attacks. It can also cause depression even in those who don’t have a history of it. Getting a hobby is a great way to reduce stress and refocus energy into something positive. Consider calming activities like knitting, painting, reading, or journaling.
Don’t Panic
The best thing you can do in any event is worry about the unknown. Take one day at a time and take a moment to breathe. As hard as it sounds, try not to get too caught up in the news. Stay informed and do your due diligence when getting the facts on what’s going on around you. Avoid heavy speculation on pandemic-related information and try to do something you enjoy to take your mind off the pandemic. Create safe spaces by talking to friends or even joining a social group on social media.
